Off topic perhaps, and confusing to readers outside of the UK but the great Rik Mayall has died today. It is clearly difficult to select any of his characters as greater than the other but personally we have a deep love - if that is the word - for Alan Beresford B'Stard. Perhaps one of the more accurate  - if exaggeratedly outrageous - depictions of a certain type of "career-politician" - then and now

Sadly missed.
