As readers will be aware, Glyndebourne released - through Opus Arte - last years Meistersinger on both DVD and Blu-ray this month. As quickly as it was reported here, we began to receive a number of messages asking if an audio CD was likely to follow. At first we thought this unlikely as DVD releases seems to have become common place and often not only complimenting CD releases but in many cases replacing them - see Bayreuth for example. However, we can now confirm that Glyndebourne plans to follow-up the DVD/Blu-ray release this year with a CD issue sometime next year - on their own Glyndebourne Label.Formed in 2008, the Glynedbourne Label was aimed at drawing on an extensive collection of recordings in the archive, which span the years from 1960 to the present day. These recordings are released in pairs, with one recording from the old opera house and one from the new - all from live performances. The latest release is 2010's Hansel und Gretel.
